Beautiful Handwoven Cotton Woman's Blouse or Wall Hanging purchased from weaver in 1974

available for pick up


This beautiful Mayan textile was handwoven in two straight pieces on a back-strap loom in the highland village of Chuarrancho. The two pieces were joined together to form a woman's blouse called a hüipil. A circle was cut out and embroidered to make the opening for the head. Measurements are 40" W x 37" L. Ideally displayed as a wall hanging.
